Duroc’s

Why do we love Durocs? They are a perfect homestead pig! These medium to large pigs are thick framed and muscular. The sows average body weight is 450 to 650 pounds and the boars mature between 500 and 750 pounds. That can result in a nice freezer full of excellent tasting, quality meat!

Durocs are also known as very good breeders, with sows having an average of 10 piglets per litter. The sows are known for taking very good of their litters. And having excellent mothers really helps a homesteader out!

What’s great for a homestead is the Durocs temperament. These pigs are known for their friendly, calm, and easy to handle deminer. They tend to be less aggressive than other breeds. In addition to their temperament durocs are very strong, hardy, and healthy pigs.

They say that location, location, location is key to all properties. Well, durocs are great at adapting to various climates and are considered cold hardy, a plus in Central NY!

With their hardiness, size, and temperament we think these are ideal homestead additions! Be sure to reach out to us for all upcoming litters.
